Metro Access Network unlocks the potential of broadband

Macquarie Telecom officially launched its Intelligent IP Access Network – the Metro Access Network, or MAN – earlier this month. Already, more than sixty business and government organisations have signed on to the Network. For new customers the MAN offers 4 times the bandwidth for the cost of their previous broadband service.

Why MAN?

Local businesses and government organisations have told us they need:

  • Significantly more bandwidth to run all their business critical applications
  • Speed and performance at a more affordable price
  • Increased quality and security
  • A migration path for convergence to Voice over IP (VoIP) and other applications

In the local market, no other provider has invested to specifically address these needs for business and government customers. Macquarie Telecom's Metro Access Network is the first business-grade, converged IP Network in Australia.

The MAN uses the latest technology to dramatically improve the data rates, performance, security and reach of access networks; and it provides a variety of access line types – including Leased Line, Ethernet, Frame Relay and IP WAN. The backbone of the network is its Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS) core which ensures Quality of Service.

Underpinned by these new generation IP technologies, Macquarie Telecom's Metro Access Network is the missing piece of the puzzle that will put Australian businesses and government on the path to convergence.

The most compelling feature of the MAN, however, is its price performance.

The network supports speeds of up to 24Mbps on it's ADSL 2+ access line. Ethernet access offers speeds of up to 18.4Mbps while Leased Line can deliver speeds up to 2Mbps. That's more than enough bandwidth for your organisation to run Voice over IP (VoIP), videoconferencing and streaming audio or a range of other converged voice and data services.

Minister says ‘yes' to MAN

Speaking at the official launch of the Metro Access Network, Federal Minister for Communications, Senator the Hon. Helen Coonan said, “The emergence of next generation networks delivers a wide range of benefits to Australian businesses.”

“For Macquarie Telecom customers, the Metro Access Network brings IP closer to the end user, and provides improved bandwidth ubiquity and multimedia functionality.”

“The higher speeds of Internet connectivity delivered by networks such as this can result in significant economic and indeed social benefits for all Australians.”

Legion Interactive signs up

One of the first organisations to take advantage of Macquarie Telecom's Metro Access Network is Legion Interactive.

Legion Interactive, the premier provider of Interactive Telephone, SMS/MMS, Internet and email services for broadcast media, works with top-rating shows such as Australian Idol, Big Brother and My Restaurant Rules.

“I wanted a single telecommunications partner that could manage both our voice and data loads, provide extensive bandwidth, offer considerable billing flexibility and assist us in managing the specialised termination requirements for our 1800 and 1300 numbers,” said Peter Jones, Legion Interactive's Chief Operating Officer.

“We expect our bandwidth needs to range between 10Mbps and 14Mbps,” said Jones. “Using Macquarie Telecom's Metro Access Network enables us to do a lot more for the same price as our previous 4Mbps access.
