Sydney, 28 February, 2010 - EMC Corporation (NYSE:EMC), the world leader in information infrastructure solutions, today announced that Macquarie Telecom has purchased more than AUD$1 million of EMC storage and automation tools to support its private cloud computing services.

As part of a continuous improvement program to Macquarie Telecom’s Intellicentre, (its dedicated managed hosting facility), the company reviewed the fundamental technologies underpinning the centre to support its growth in business and subsequently partnered with EMC.

“There is a growing demand for managed cloud computing-based services because they simplify an organisation’s IT environment, giving it flexibility and turning capital expenses to operational expenses, which is important in today’s economy,” explains Aidan Tudehope, Managing Director, Hosting, Macquarie Telecom. “One of the key value points of EMC’s proposal was the synergy between its storage offering and its range of automation tools”.

Using EMC CLARiiONŽ networked storage, Macquarie Telecom will host customers’ digital media content, including mission critical web applications and e-commerce websites. In addition, Macquarie Telecom will use EMC Ionix IT™ management software to simplify and automate management of the company’s virtual and physical infrastructure.

“We are expecting to realise savings of more than AUD$260,000 over the next three years through the reduction of operational costs with the Ionix infrastructure and service management solutions. Another important benefit is that it will enable us to continually improve our customer service levels. Something we take very seriously”, Tudehope added.

EMC’s David Webster, President, Australia and New Zealand says EMC is pleased to be working with Macquarie Telecom as it innovates in managed hosting services with an environment that maximises storage capability and reduces operational cost.

“Enabling and supporting organisations on their journey to the cloud is a clear focus for EMC. We are helping customers by providing the technology that simplifies management and increases efficiency and capacity of virtual infrastructures.”

Established in 1992 as one of the first telecommunications providers of the deregulated era, Macquarie Telecom delivers a full range of server hosting, data, voice and mobile services to the public and private sector throughout Australia. Its data centre storage requirements are growing exponentially at a rate of more than 30 per cent per annum. Additionally, 40 per cent of Macquarie Telecom’s existing customer base has migrated to dedicated virtualised environments, while 95 per cent of new customers’ requirements are based on virtualised environments.
