Sydney, Australia – 12 June 2007 Macquarie Hosting, a division of Macquarie Telecom, today announced it has joined a select group of leading global hosting providers in the new VMware Service Provider Program (VSPP).

Under the program Macquarie Hosting delivers virtualised hosting services via VMware infrastructure to give business and government customers the performance, security and control of dedicated hosting – with on demand scalability, at a lower cost.

This latest service offering provides Macquarie Hosting customers with the option of either going physical or virtual with their online mission critical server infrastructure.

These services include:

  • Virtualised dedicated hosting: Allows organisations with mission critical online applications to immediately and cost-effectively increase or reduce their hosted infrastructure capacity to meet demand
  • Disaster recovery: Enables organisations to migrate their infrastructure, live, to virtual machines and recover from unplanned outages in minutes
  • Utility-based computing: Transform your hosting infrastructure into a flexible pool of IT resources so customers can draw capacity as needed

Under the program, Macquarie Telecom will also develop customised virtual infrastructure offerings to meet specific customer requirements.

Macquarie Hosting's managed server virtualistion offering gives customers with high-availability, mission critical online applications, the same level of proactive management, security and performance they expect from traditional hosted server environments,” said Aidan Tudehope, Managing Director Hosting, Macquarie Telecom.

“However, virtualisation offers a range of additional benefits including superior levels of agility, scalability, and business continuity. Backed by VMware’s infrastructure, Macquarie Hosting’s virtual server offering means we can now help organisations significantly reduce their hardware costs while ensuring they remain available and responsive to customers,” added Tudehope.

Virtualisation supported by certified security

The VMware software permits dedicated managed servers in the Macquarie Hosting data centre to be partitioned into multiple "virtual" machines. Customers are then provided their own virtual private server or virtual server farm, the capacity of which can be scaled up or down depending on their specific needs.

Security is enhanced by the unparalleled third-party accreditation standards which Macquarie Hosting’s Intellicentre meets. Certifications include:

  • ISO 27001 – an international standard designed to help businesses with a global presence secure their information assets and boost their defences against costly information security attacks
  • DSD Gateway – a federal government standard which offers assurance that Macquarie Telecom’s internet gateway provides protection from external threats appropriate for systems and data up to and including the "Highly Protected" level of classification
