Online registry and voting services provider cuts hosting costs and boosts security, capacity and availability of systems

Sydney, Australia – 22 August 2006 – Online registry and voting provider, Registries Limited has signed a four year deal worth around $1.5 million with Macquarie Telecom for managed hosting and telecommunications services.

The solution is expected to reduce managed services and communications costs by up to 20 per cent. It will also further enhance the overall availability, security and reliability of the company’s mission critical Integrated Securities Management (ISM) registry system.

Registries Limited provides online registry, voting and communication management services to more than 200 companies. These include Harvey Norman Holdings Limited, Metcash Limited, Seven Network Limited, New Zealand Oil & Gas Limited and Wilson Investment Group.

“Strategically, we were ready to take our existing IT environment to the next level,” said Tony Robinson, IT Director at Registries Limited. “This included further expansion of our communications infrastructure capabilities. Macquarie Telecom came up with a solution that matches our current workload and has the capacity to scale with the business.”

Macquarie Telecom won the contract in a competitive tender based on its ability to provide an innovative yet cost-effective solution that met Registries’ strategic plans.

“The calibre of the customer management and implementation teams convinced us Macquarie Telecom had the expertise and resources available to manage our complex environment,” said Robinson. “They listened to our needs, reacted promptly and delivered on their promises.”

Under the agreement, Macquarie Hosting, a division of Macquarie Telecom, will host and manage all of Registries’ production systems that run mission critical applications. Macquarie Hosting will also deliver new server hardware and capacity under the managed hosting services contract.

These services will be delivered via Macquarie Telecom’s high speed MPLS Private IP network (4Mb Ethernet Metro Access Network links), which will connect the production servers in Macquarie Hosting’s data centre to Registries’ offices and its external Disaster Recovery site.

Macquarie Telecom also provides fixed and mobile telephony services to Registries.

Delivering security and 24/7 availability

As an organisation that deals in time-sensitive and confidential financial transactions, Registries Limited requires 24/7 availability and robust security.

Macquarie will host Registries online registry and voting systems in its purpose built, high availability, high security, fully managed hosting facility, the Intellicentre.

The normal peaks and troughs of Registries’ data traffic experienced in everyday transaction processing will be accommodated through Macquarie Telecom’s flexible bandwidth provisioning. This ensures Registries meets customer demand for reliable, high speed services that deliver accurate, up-to-date investor information and voting services over the Web.

The stringent security and confidentiality requirements of online information are further enhanced as Macquarie Hosting’s Intellicentre is certified to AS/NZS 7799 and DSD Gateway security standards. This ensures all corporate and client data, information documents, reports, ballot papers and proxy forms can be maintained, stored, accessed and retrieved safely and securely.

“Maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of client information is an integral part of our high availability service offering,” said Robinson.

“Macquarie Hosting’s 24-hour on-site monitoring protects us from hardware failure outages, virus and denial of service attacks and unexpected network glitches. This ensures today’s investors can access investment information securely, anywhere, at any time.”

According to Greg Thomson, Group Executive, Hosting and Security, Macquarie Telecom, “High availability, reliability and security are prerequisites for companies such as Registries whose operations depend on real time mission critical online applications, and Macquarie Hosting can ensure these factors are covered.”

“By outsourcing it’s managed hosting and telecommunications services to Macquarie Telecom, Registries continues to deliver optimum client service while keeping costs under control.”
