Sydney, Australia – 24th February 2006 – Macquarie Telecom has delivered 100 per cent up time for Winter Olympic's website – winterolympics.seven.com.au – a component of Channel 7's coverage of the event.

The site, which features live results, video streaming, gallery and SMS alerts, is designed to keep Australian winter sports fans up to date with the latest event results, medal tallies and news. The live information updates are aggregated from a broad range of sources including Channel 7, AAP and Reuters.

Macquarie Telecom was engaged by a local web development company to provide secure, high-availability, managed hosting services for the website, winterolympics.seven.com.au.

The availability and stability of the site are maximised by a "burstable" Internet pipe which allows access to higher levels of bandwidth during spikes in traffic. Macquarie Telecom also provides redundant switches and firewalls, and managed load balancing to ensure up time.

The data-heavy site is connected to Macquarie Telecom's multi-gigabit Internet gateway for high-speed data services – enabling fast downloads of images and streaming.

winterolympics.seven.com.au is hosted out of Macquarie Telecom's state-of-the-art data centre, the Intellicentre – one of the most highly certified and secure facilities in the southern hemisphere.

“For our managed hosting customers a website is more than just a straight content play. It's about applications that assist users to access information and resources online that they couldn't get elsewhere,” said Greg Thomson, Executive Manager Hosting and Security at Macquarie Telecom.

“Critical to this are high levels of availability, security and redundancy. Whether our customers need online access to interface with their mobile sales force, connect with partners, provide e-commerce capabilities or deliver comprehensive coverage of the Winter Olympics, they demand Internet access that is available and fast.”

“Macquarie Telecom has an extremely strong track record in delivering these services to some of Australia's leading businesses and government organisations,” said Thomson.
