Student data to be protected through Managed Hosting environment

Sydney, Australia – 5th July 2005 – The Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA) has appointed Macquarie Telecom as its managed hosting partner for the state-wide AISWAlearningnet project.

AISWAlearningnet is an interactive online learning environment that will provide students with curriculum related activities specifically developed to meet their individual learning needs. It will be rolled out to AISWA member schools in metropolitan, regional and remote areas of Western Australia.

Delivered using the Scholaris Learning Gateway – software developed and supported by Perth-based Solutions IT – AISWAlearningnet will allow students to learn online, at their own pace, with support and monitoring from teachers and parents.

The portal will also facilitate intra-school communication and provide a resource for sharing educational materials with other member schools. Eventually it will be extended to provide parents access to school and student-related information.

Student data to be protected through Managed Hosting environment

To bring AISWAlearningnet to life, Macquarie Telecom will deliver the organisation a fully-managed, highly-available, secure hosting environment.

The infrastructure has been designed to easily and cost-effectively grow as the AISWAlearningnet project is rolled out to AISWA member schools across Western Australia. These range from large independent schools to schools located in remote indigenous communities.

Macquarie Telecom will deliver services including Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus and Storage-on-Demand, for up to 5,000 students in the first phase, scaling to approximately 15,000 students over time.

According to Audrey Jackson, Executive Director, AISWA, security was one of the key criteria in the organisation's selection of a managed hosting partner, “When we first started consulting member schools about the project they were extremely keen, but had one major concern: security.”

“Student data will be transferred and stored via the AISWAlearningnet project so maintaining the security and integrity of the system is paramount. When it came down to it, Macquarie Telecom's security pedigree was the telling factor. Now we can confidently tell schools their student data will be protected to the highest standards.”

Macquarie Telecom is certified to Australian Information Security standard AS/NZS 7799, BS 7799 and DSD Gateway standards. The company is the only Australian carrier to have attained Highly Protected Status within DSD Gateway Certification – one of the most stringent categories within the certification.

“Macquarie designed a scaled solution which could grow over time but be commercially effective from day one,” said Glen Noble, General Manager Data and Hosting Solutions, Macquarie Telecom.

“The AISWAlearningnet project is a true demonstration of organisations working together to deliver innovative learning solutions to school's across Western Australia,” he said.
