Strategic partnership delivers cheaper telco and IP to Queensland businesses

Sydney, AUSTRALIA – 5th April 2005Commerce Queensland, the peak body for the Queensland business community, has slashed its communications costs following the appointment of Macquarie Telecom as its telecommunications and IP solutions provider.

According to the CEO of Commerce Queensland, Joe Barnewall, “We have saved up to 25 per cent of our total carrier costs with Macquarie Telecom.”

Macquarie Telecom delivers Commerce Queensland a range of convergent solutions including local, long distance and international telephony, Internet, mobile and an IP Virtual Private Network.

Commerce Queensland appointed Macquarie Telecom following a competitive tender process.

The organisation was looking for a converged voice and data solution that was highly available, delivered superior quality of service (QoS), lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and improved billing processes.

“We wanted a flexible and innovative business partner rather than just another supplier,” said Barnewall. “Macquarie Telecom was willing to negotiate on terms and conditions where others weren't. They were also prepared to address both Commerce Queensland's needs and members' needs.”

Members receive minimum 5 per cent saving on telco costs

The companies have also formed a strategic partnership whereby Macquarie Telecom is the recommended provider of telecommunications services to Commerce Queensland's member base.

The organisation's membership network represents Queensland companies of all sizes including both commercial and not-for-profit organisations such as Anglicare Central Queensland.

“Many of our members are small businesses that would not normally be able to realise such significant savings on their telecommunications and IP costs,” said Barnewall.

“The partnership with Macquarie Telecom guarantees them a minimum 5 per cent saving as well as access to services, such as consolidated billing, that help them better manage these costs.”

According to Bob Pahl, Corporate Administration Manager, Anglicare Central Queensland, “Our team uses voice and mobile services extensively. But we needed to rein in the costs associated with calls without restricting service availability. We spoke with Macquarie Telecom and they offered us cost savings that were extremely good compared with our existing rates.”

“When we did change providers, Macquarie Telecom handled the whole process. The level of service and support they gave was outstanding. Now we just have one company to deal with and one person to contact for any queries about our fixed line or mobile service,” added Pahl.

According to Barnewall, “The strategic partnership is a demonstration of what Commerce Queensland is all about – helping members to more effectively run their business and boost the bottom line.”
