Strategic partnership delivers cost-effective,
Round-the-clock access for business and government

Sydney- 13 October 2004 – Enterprises keen to embrace open source and Linux can now choose a Managed Services solution with the appointment of Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications as the first certified Australian Red Hat hosting partner.

As the Red Hat hosting partner, Macquarie provides business and government with the security of a 24/7 state of the art, purpose-built data centre specifically designed to support their online initiatives as well as ensure business continuity.

“Australian enterprises and government departments are adopting Red Hat Enterprise Linux at an accelerated pace, however there are some enterprises that want the option of a hosted solution,” said Sandeep Chandiramani, Director of Partner Alliances, Red Hat.

“Macquarie will provide our customers with secure and reliable access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux - a vital component in expanding our market reach,” he said.

Through its $35 million Intellicentre, Macquarie manages the infrastructure needs for thousands of corporate and government users' websites and critical applications.

“With Red Hat growing 100% year on year, Macquarie is pleased to be the first Australian organisation to offer Red Hat users a world-class hosting solution,” said Glen Noble, General Manager, Data & Hosting, Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications.

Leveraging the benefits of advanced technology and open standards, Macquarie hosted solutions provide business and government with cost-effective, round the clock access to leading-edge technology and specialist staff including Linux specialists as well as fully accredited security solutions to meet corporate governance requirements.

This enables Macquarie to deploy new installations rapidly and ensure operating environments are running on the latest release of Red Hat. The infrastructure investment in Red Hat by Macquarie provides excellent scalability and flexibility for Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployments. Ongoing benefits to customers include a reduction in the implementation timetable and overall operational costs.

“Not all organisations have the skills and resources to design and build secure Linux solutions and very few can afford a 24x7 monitoring and counter response capability,” said Noble. “Macquarie's carrier independence and international accreditations ensure the highest standards of security, quality and choice.”

Macquarie's Managed Security Services are a key strength of the centre. They combine dedicated security hardware and software, regular monitoring of network traffic (event logging, security alerts, firewall reporting, information updates), centralised policy management and security testing.

Dedicated hosting customers benefit from the latest in anti-virus, anti-spam, managed firewall and content filtering while co-location solutions provide enterprises with the ability to utilise the Intellicentre's connectivity benefits while managing, monitoring and maintaining their own servers and business continuity.
