DCITA – Third DSD Gateway Win For Macquarie Corporate

Sydney, Australia – 24 May, 2004 – The Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts is the latest Federal Government department to select Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications (ASX: MAQ) as its provider of Secure Internet Gateway Services.

DCITA joins the Departments of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (PM&C) and Industry, Tourism and Resources (DITR) in appointing Macquarie Corporate as its IT security provider of choice.

According to a DCITA spokesperson, Macquarie was selected following a tender process as it represented best value for money in line with current Commonwealth Procurement Guidelines.

Under the contract, Macquarie will provide DCITA with Protected Gateway Services, which includes managed intrusion detection, content and anti-virus filtering and network firewall. Macquarie also provides the Department with voice and data carriage services.

Security a top priority for government “We are pleased with the way the government market has embraced Macquarie,” said Glen Noble, General Manager Hosting and Data Solutions, Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications.

“We have a strong base of voice and data customers in the government market. Customers could procure their data network, web hosting, Internet and managed security services from a number of providers, but it makes technical sense to integrate these interlinked services with a single provider for increased levels of security. There are also efficiency gains which translate into reduced costs. Macquarie allows them to take full advantage of these benefits.”

The DITR contract for Internet related services awarded to Macquarie last month was valued at $2 million dollars over three years. The services cover website hosting and secure Internet access for the Department's email and web browsing services.

The Department of the Prime Minister & Cabinet win announced earlier this month called for a DSD certified Gateway** to provide a secure hosting environment for the Department's Web sites, secure Internet access and e-mail services and provision of a secure remote access solution.

These announcements demonstrate the growing importance of DSD Gateway Certification in government.

Macquarie is the only Australian telecommunications carrier to achieve DSD Gateway Certification.
