Telecommunications To Deliver Secure Internet Services
DSD Gateway Certification - growing importance for government

Sydney, Australia – 11 May, 2004 – The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet has selected Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications (ASX: MAQ) as its provider of fully managed security and Internet gateway services.

Macquarie, with its partner LogicaCMG, will deliver a total security solution to meet the requirements of the Department. The tender called for a DSD certified Gateway** to provide a secure hosting environment for the Department's Web sites, secure Internet access and e-mail services, management of secure firewalls within the department's network infrastructure and provision of a secure remote access solution.

E-mail and secure access to the Internet are critical business needs for the Department and it is essential all departmental systems and information are securely protected. It is not cost-effective for the Department to provide these services in-house due to the high-level of technical skills and infrastructure required and the need for 24/7 monitoring and support.

Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications and LogicaCMG were able to demonstrate a good understanding of the Department's requirements and a customer-focussed approach to service delivery.

Macquarie will provide the Department with a secure Internet gateway, virus and content filtering, SPAM filtering, secure firewall Gateway services, 24/7 help desk and secure web hosting for the department websites.

All these services are provided through its Intellicentre, Macquarie's purpose built world-class hosting facility.

Macquarie, with its security partner LogicaCMG, will provide the Department with a total service management solution, which includes monitoring the performance of, as well as configuration and support for, onsite firewalls. LogicaCMG will also provide an International Secure Remote Access solution to ensure Internet security levels are maintained whether staff access files from within the office or remotely.

Macquarie and LogicaCMG aim to deliver a number of benefits to the Department, including reliable and robust e-mail and Internet services, protection from viruses and denial-of-service attacks, and improved reporting capabilities. These will be backed by a strong working relationship between Macquarie, the Department and its outsourced Service Desk.

DSD Gateway Certification - growing importance for government According to Glen Noble, General Manager Hosting and Data Solutions, Macquarie Corporate Telecommunications, the company sees a growing number of Government tenders stipulating DSD Gateway certification as a mandatory requirement.

“Security attacks are on the rise and hit an organisation at multiple levels throughout the telecommunications infrastructure. DSD Certification means the safeguards are in place to minimise the risk of intrusion, fraud and malicious electronic damage. It covers more than just the technology. DSD Certification covers the people, processes, systems, documentation and redundancy to make certain a provider can recognise and respond to a threat appropriately.”

“Trust is an underlying element of the security process. Since Macquarie gained DSD Certification eight months ago the company has worked with a number of federal government departments to deliver security solutions. We have a strong track record developing and delivering DSD Gateway services to meet each organisation's unique needs,” he said.

Macquarie is the only Australian telecommunications carrier to achieve DSD Gateway Certification.

Bill Richards, Managing Director, Services Division, LogicaCMG, said, “Protecting information is critical to any organisational strategy, as the process of government or operation of business, could be severely disrupted by unforeseen events or malicious attacks.”

“Professional services such as onsite maintenance and project management are a critical step in mitigating security risks. LogicaCMG's security experts will be working closely with Macquarie and the Department's IT team to ensure its Internet gateway remains secure whether it is accessed from within its offices or remotely.” Bill Richards concluded.

Macquarie provides DSD Gateway Certified Internet services and managed security services to a number of government departments and agencies including the Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts and the Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources.
