As you access data stored in a Managed Storage Tier, the FAST technology from EMC, a leading global vendor, automatically moves the hot or active, and cold or idle, data to the right device within the Storage Tier. In other words, the storage tier optimises the movement of all the data across that tier’s devices, based on the guaranteed IOPS thresholds. The migration of data between devices within a Storage Tier is non-disruptive – it does not impact a customer accessing his data and is fully transparent. The result is very low latency for the data that is frequently accessed, and more data being stored on low cost devices.
To define these Managed Storage Tiers, Premium, Superior, Intermediate, and Standard, Macquarie Telecom uses IOPS (I/O per second) levels. These IOPS levels were established to meet business workloads, after years of monitoring customer storage usage, and with the advice from the industry leading Storage provider, EMC. The requirement we see are workloads from high performance data bases, which needs significant throughput and low latency, down to workloads that store data that has infrequent use.
Behind the tiers, we offer a Service Level Guarantees that locks in manage performance and availability through the mix of various storage technologies, and RAID protection.
You can allocate Managed Storage to any Managed Server, Dedicated Server, Co-Located Server, or Cloud Server.
