What is Cloud Computing | Cloud Hosting
The answer would depend on whom you are talking to since
there are as many definitions as there are shades of grey.
In this white paper, we set out to provide our definition of
cloud computing - putting it all in context relative to
Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
and Enterprise Cloud Hosting.
There is currently a tremendous amount of interest in Cloud
Computing; however, viewed in context, Cloud Computing is the
natural evolution of the abstraction concept delivered by
virtualisation technology.
“Cloud Computing” is the next stage in the continually
evolving concept of computing. This new paradigm is promising to
transform the computing model from a largely static connection
between Applications and Hardware, and discrete expansion
dictated by physical equipment limitations to an integrated
computing platform capable of more granular scalability and
flexibility.
The current generation of Cloud Hosting offerings are in the main,
limited to ready-to-consume software services and in many cases,
not suitable for business-grade requirements. These best-effort
services lack the necessary features such as Service Level
Guarantees (SLG) and Service Assurance to support
mission-critical requirements. For business-grade infrastructure
services, the latest thinking in Cloud Computing strategy is
leaning towards a Enterprise Hybrid Cloud model - which is the federation
of a private cloud and an internal enterprise cloud.
As the leader in online mission-critical hosting in
Australia, Macquarie Hosting already provides cloud-like
ecosystems (Cloud Hosting) for many of our customers today who are on the
journey towards private cloud hosting environments.
